Popular New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist, Regina Lamiley France, popularly known as Naa Lamley Wonkye, is reported dead. Lamiley, who was noted for dressing like a traditional priestess, died at the Emergency Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in the early hours of Saturday, June 21, 2014. She was 46. News about her death shocked members of the Greater Accra Regional NPP branch of the opposition new Patriotic Party (NPP). Leading members of the NPP in the region, who were in a meeting, had to suspend it to commiserate with the bereaved family. They were led by former Mayor of Accra, Stanley Nii Adjei Blankson, Lord Commey, Regional Secretary, Nii Adjei Sowah, Micheal Makendze of Madina, Kofi Ofori of Ablekuma North, Theophilus Tetteh of Ablekumah West, Nii Lante Plange of Ablekuma South and some party faithful. Lamiley defected from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the NPP after she had issues with them a couple of years ago. She was often recognized by her �fetish priestess� costume and her unflinching support for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. She left behind two children, Jonathan Sackey-Addo, 29, and Roselyn Naa Dei Ashie, 25. Her last major public appearance was during the NPP�s recent Tamale National Delegates� conference where she was seen in her usual attire. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced later. Meanwhile, pre-funeral meetings for the departed would begin tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Asere Dzorshie (Man-Passman) in Accra.
