People Of Asogli Threaten Demo Against Govt

The Chiefs of the Asogli Traditional area in the Volta Region are threatening to embark on a demonstration with their subjects on Wednesday in Ho if they do not see visible signs of governments commitment to address their development needs. According to the chiefs, they feel neglected and that the government is taking them for granted. Speaking on behalf of the the Asogli state Chief of Ho, Heve Togbui Anipki said, come Wednesday the demonstration is coming on if they do not see any sign that work has resumed on the Ho-Adidome-Sogakope roads. Are we not part of the country or is it because the region is considered as World Bank [during elections] that come what may whether our needs are catered for or not you are sure of our votes and therefore no serious attention is given to our development projects, he noted. The chiefs made this known to President John Mahama when they hosted him as part of a one day inspection tour of the Adidome to Ho road. The chiefs also listed a litany of development challenges including roads, potable water amongst others as their frustration which is leading them to embark on the demonstration. They further cited frustrations of commuters who ply the Ho and Accra route after the closure of the Adomi Bridge and called for urgent interventions to ensure that economic activities in the Volta region do not come to a halt. On his part President John Mahama assured the people of the Volta Region that his administration would never take them for granted. I am very pleased that I came here today and I am very appreciative of your frankness in talking about your frustration; It doesnt anger me, it rather lets me understand that there is more that we should do, he said. According to him the NDC administration would ensure that they get their fair share of national development. Let me assure the people of Volta Region that you have never been taken for granted and I will never take you for granted, the President added. President Mahama explained that government is undertaking a lot of developments. He noted that the complaints about roads are not restricted only to the Volta region. Everywhere I have gone; in all the ten regions, the complaints have been the same about roads, President Mahama stated. Meanwhile work is progressing on the Adidome to Ho road as President Mahama promises to ensure that funds are released on time to ensure completion. The road serves as an alternative route to the Volta Regional capital.
