Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia North constituency have registered their full support for the third time bid of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the flagbearership of the party.
They believe Nana Addo�s candidature can help the party recapture power in the 2016 general elections. Their decision has been explained variously, such as Nana Addo�s popularity, his tenacity, resilience, sense of patriotism, and love for the country.
Mr. Richard Osei Bamfo, spokesperson of the concerned members, explained their position in Nana Akufo-Addo�s conduct of always seeking the interest of the party over and above his personal interests. He said, Nana Addo, who they described as very tolerant (Abotrehene), is now a household name, and was the kind of man the members needed as flagbearer for the 2016 elections.
Mr. Osei Bamfo further explained at a press conference in Kumasi that over the years Nana Addo had demonstrated that he is a man of vision, coupled with strategic actions to put the country on a sound economic footing. The group said Nana Addo has always been a man of integrity, and was incorruptible, an indication that he can be trusted, especially, in the area of fighting corruption.
The members also saw Nana Addo as a symbol of unity, which was the greatest requirement of a candidate to lead the party, saying Nana Addo is a man who symbolises unity in every sense. They condemned recent events that pointed to elements of disunity, and cautioned that it would have serious repercussions on the party if the NPP does not embark on a campaign, devoid of acrimony, in order not to fall prey to the NDC, who are patiently observing from the sidelines to capitalise on the internal wrangling in the NPP.
�Let�s put our house in order. Let�s refrain from smear campaigns and channel any grievances through [our] national executives for resolution,� the members advised. The group has, therefore, entreated all delegates to ensure that Nana Addo is given the mandate to lead the party to wrestle power from the ruling NDC.
