Acting Interior Minister Assures Residents Of Bimbila of Adequate Security Following Recent Disturbances

The Minister for Defense, Mark Woyongo, who is also the acting Minister for the Interior, has assured residents of Bimbila and its environs of adequate security following recent disturbances in the area that led to the killing of a chief and four others. He stated that, the killers of the Naa Andani Dassana and four others will not escape justice. Mr. Woyongo was addressing the media in Tamale, after a fact finding mission to Bimbila on Monday. Seventeen suspects have so far been arrested, but the Acting Defense Minister revealed that, about 13 other suspects are still at large. Mr. Woyongo confirmed that, some mercenaries might have been involved in the disturbances. He expressed worry over the high number of sophisticated weapons circulating in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, saying such weapons were the cause of most of the conflicts in the region. He is therefore appealing to residents of the three regions to assist the security in retrieving these weapons. Mr. Woyongo also indicated that, the body of the late Naa Andani Dasaana will be released to the family for burial by Thursday. He said autopsy on the body will be performed on Tuesday, clearing the way for burial. The family of the late chief on Friday demanded the body for burial. Some unidentified assailants last week stormed the home of one of the contestants to the Bimbila skin, killing him and four others, scores were also injured in the incident.
