Fire Service Warns Of Imminent Fire Outbreak At W/R Markets

The Ghana National Fire service in Takoradi says the increase in illegal electrical connections in the Takoradi Market is posing an imminent fire outbreak in the largest market in the Western Region. According to them over 50 percent of electrical wiring at the market is considered illegal. The Station Officer at the market, Albert Ansah noticed the problem earlier and accordingly wrote proposals to the appropriate quarters. The proposals havent received any attention. He said the recent decongestion exercise carried out by the Sekondi Takoradi Metro Assembly revealed the flaws in the electrical system. He said despite distress calls particularly to the Electricity Company of Ghana, authorities have failed to respond to their calls. Deputy Regional Minister Alfred Ekow Gyan was here last year, metro chief also came here on inspection at another time, the ECG on their part does not respond at all to our calls when we spot danger. Albert Ansah said. Adding to the calls, the Western Regional Fire Safety Inspector of the Ghana National Fire Service, Divisional Officer Grade 2, Roberta Aggrey Ghanson in an interview with Citi News said the growing number of occupants at the market which was not anticipated is a recipe for outbreak. She said the ECG does not inspect the market on regular basis. She therefore called on the company to respond to the demands of the service.
