Freak Accident On Kasoa Highway

With horn tooting and accelerator pedal highly engaged, a speeding tipper truck veered off the road and smashed a building housing a number of shops and offices at Kasoa in the Central Region early Monday morning. Fortunately, no one was hit or hurt in the incident. A drivers assistant (aplanke), who was behind the wheel at the time of the incident, was said to have lost control of the tipper truck in his attempt to chase another vehicle that had grazed and dented the side of the truck while in traffic. The accident happened in an area in Kasoa called Odukpon Kpehe, close to the main traffic lights on the Kasoa Winneba highway, at about 6 a.m. Eyewitnesses said they saw the driver of the truck get out of the vehicle in the very busy area of Kasoa to chase the offending vehicle on foot after it scraped and dented the truck with registration number GE 7119 -12 and had attempted to run away by meandering through the traffic. When he abandoned the truck, another person who was later identified as his assistant (mate) took over the steering wheel to chase after the offending driver. Under the circumstances, he was said to have accelerated, lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road, leading to the crash. Luckily, no one was hurt except for damage done to the tipper truck and the building. The damaged building accommodated shops and offices including the Kasoa Agency of Star Assurance, an insurance firm. The Odukpon Kpehe area is usually a very busy place with human activity. On that day, which was an exception, businesses were yet to open. At the time of leaving the accident scene, the police were yet to arrive while the driver and his assistant were also not available for comment.
