Tetteh Benjamin, a thirty-two-year-old chain saw operator has allegedly assaulted his fianc�e and sister simultaneously with pestle for keeping long after attending a wake-keeping at Abisim-Yeboah, near Nankese in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern region.
The victims, Ernestina Akuffo, 29, and wife of the suspect, Mercy Akuffo, 35, sustained injury on the lips, heads and hands and are currently receiving treatment at the Koforidua Central Hospital. The suspect is at large.
Information gathered by the DAILY HERITAGE from the father of the victims, Lawerh Akuffo, indicated that the victims stay in the same community.
He said on Tuesday, the victims went to a wake-keeping of a family member at a nearby village, Boponso; however, they kept long at the funeral grounds with the intention of waiting for the corpse�s arrival to file past it in the evening before leaving the place.
The suspect, who got furious, deep in the night banged on the door of the in-law to ask why the fianc�e had not returned from the wake-keeping.
He noted that the suspect was not satisfied with the response and further went to a neighboring house and asked if any of them had seen the victims.
Later it emerged to the suspect that the fianc�e was hiding in her sister's room, in order to prevent the furious husband from assaulting her, for keeping late.
The suspect, according to the father in-law, pulled a pestle, went to the room and dragged Ernestina out and allegedly assaulted them mercilessly.
Mr. Lawerh, noted that, the elder of the victims, however, raised alarm to cause the arrest of the suspect, but he managed to escape.
They said the suspect is in the habit of assaulting her daughter on several occasions and whenever he tries to cause his arrest, the suspect hires elders in the area to plead on his behalf.
The matter has been reported to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the victims have been issued with medical forms to attend hospital for treatment, while the police are investigating the assault.
