NLC Offices Under Lock And Key

The National Labour Commission�s (NLC) office in the Liberation House at Ridge was on Wednesday under lock and key with pieces of red cloth tied to the door handles. Citi News� visit to the premises of the office the workers who number about 40 were sitting in groups chatting. Citi News understands the workers for the past days have been agitating for the dismissal of the chairman of the Commission, Breku Boadu. The security man told Citi News he was unaware of the reasons why the offices were under lock and key. �I can�t tell. I locked the door yesterday with my own key but this particular one is not from my keys. Since we don�t have a night security man we can�t tell what happened,� he said. Mr. Boadu until his appointment as the chairman of the Commission was the executive secretary of the NLC. The workers have described him as incompetent and a tyrant who forced the hand of the President to appoint him chairman of the Commission by instigating CLOGSAG to embark on strike. Established in 2005, the mandate of the NLC is to receive labour-related complaints, facilitate and settle Industrial disputes, and also promote effective cooperation between labour and management.
