Akufo-Addo Mourns Passing Of Gladys Asmah

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Gladys Asmah, which occurred at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Tuesday. As a founding member and a stalwart in the New Patriotic Party, she served as a role model and a source of inspiration to many and will be sorely missed. During the fight for the reinstatement of multi-party democracy in our country, and in the formation of the NPP, Mrs. Asmah played a very important role. She was the first Minister for Women and Children Affairs and the first Minister for Fisheries in the history of our country. The achievements she chalked in both Ministries were remarkable. She was an excellent and trustworthy colleague. I visited her at Korle Bu whilst she was on admission, and hoped that she was on the road to recovery. However, our Father in Heaven knows best. Hers was a life well lived. My condolences go to her family, the NPP family and the entire nation of Ghana. May she rest in perfect peace, and may God bless her soul. ......Signed...... Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
