The Banmuhene of Akropong -Akuapem, Nana Kwame Afari Bampo has been cited as witnessing a beating to pulp and stripping naked of a hunch- back at his palace for allegedly taking the dust underneath the feet of a woman while asleep for ritual purposes.
The hunch-back, Ebenezer Kofi Kwakye, 25, collapsed minutes after the ordeal and was rushed to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong where he was admitted and discharged the following day.
The incident occurred on Monday evening at around 9 pm. Sources indicated that a woman close to the Banmuhene reported to him that, while she was asleep, the victim sneaked into her room and took away dust underneath her sandals and absconded so the chief should query the victim.
When the victim was asked, he admitted the offence, but denied taking the dust for ritual purposes.
The victim was subjected to severe beatings and torture as part of the interrogation process until the victim was compelled under the life-threatening circumstance to admit that the dust taken from the sandals of the woman was meant for spiritual purposes.
Information gathered indicated that Nana Kwame Afari Bampoe, an ex-military officer of the Ghana Armed Forces became furious at the scene and dragged the victim on the street and left him to his fate.
A few residents who heard about the incident trooped to the scene and took the victim to the Police station, who issued a medical form to the victim for treatment at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital where the victim was admitted and discharged the following day.
The Akropong Police are tight-lipped on the matter. Meanwhile, several attempts via phone calls and text messages to reach the chief yielded no response, as he declined to pick his calls or reply messages sent.
