Anglican Church Not Against Muslims -Bishop

THE Most Reverend professor Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo, the primate and Metropolitan Anglican of the province of West Africa has denied accusations of religious intolerance against him and the Anglican Church. The Anglican Bishop of Kumasi says allegations made by a section of Muslims at Ejura in the Ashanti region in the face of attempts by some Muslims to build a mosque at the Ejuraman Anglican Senior High School, is not only shocking but also unfair, and called on members of the public to ignore such allegations based on a hidden agenda. Professor Yinka-Sarfo said the management of the school was not against anybody practicing his or religious belief which was evident in the fact that the management had offered Muslims in the school a place to worship. He explained, however, that the management of the school was not eager to allow the construction of a permanent mosque on campus. The Anglican Prelate said it was wrong for the Muslims to attempt to bypass the school authorities to have their own way and pointed out that since the land for the SHS was acquired by the Anglican church which provided infrastructure and other logistics including library books, computers and science equipment over the years, it was wrong for anybody to attempt to build a Mosque on its compound. Most Reverend professor Yinkah-Sarfo reminded the accusers that the Ejuraman SHS still remains an Anglican mission school and that a mosque could not build on its compound saying that should not be misconstrued to mean religious intolerance explaining further that he has personal friends who are Muslims and urged members of the public to ignore the accusations. The Archbishop said the schools management has been treating all students and teachers fairly and without discrimination which mutual relationship he assured, would be sustained and continued into the future. He said even though majority of Muslim students are not boarders yet a place has been found for them to say prayers on Fridays. We will assist Muslims to worship and practice their religious faith without any hindrance but not a permanent and mosque on campus, he said.
