Only 2,053 out of the 7,925 qualified applications received were offered admission to pursue undergraduate programmes at the University of Education, Winneba Campus, for the 2013/2014 sandwich programme.
This is due to increased demand and limited academic and infrastructural facilities.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, said this at the matriculation of the fresh students in Winneba.
He said 1,374 applications were received for various postgraduate programmes at the Winneba campus out of which 745 comprising 454 males and 291 females were offered admission.
The VC told the students that the matriculation oath they took enjoined them to be of good behaviour and obedient to the University authorities.
He said the UEW continued to expand its postgraduate programmes to provide its products with skills and competencies needed for the various sectors of the economy, particularly the education sector.
Prof. Asabere told the students that the UEW was to equip them with the skills to enable them find solutions to problems and be reasonably independent in their thinking.
He said the aim of the University is to help them to be independent, to be able to adopt positive attitude to life, be conscious of the value of time and be sincere to themselves and society.
