The problem confronting the Ho Central Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is moving from bad to worse.
The group, which took the party and the constituency executives to court, has now filed contempt charges against the defendants, for actively participating in party activities when they have been retrained from doing so.
The plaintiffs accused the defendants of participating in a regional election organized by the party and in the national congress of the party held at Tamale and currently preparing to officially inaugurate a Council of Elders which they deemed as contempt of court.
It would be recalled that The Chronicle on Thursday, April 10, 2014, reported that Justice N.C. A Agbevor, a High Court Judge in the Volta regional capital, Ho, has recused himself from hearing a case involving an injunction placed on the Ho Central Constituency elections of the NPP, after his residence was attacked and some of his siblings subjected to beatings. The judge had a tip-off that a party to the case he was hearing had been spotted entering his (judge) residence.
The attackers had gone to the house on suspicion that their opponent in the case was going to bribe the judge. In a related development, the High court had issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Ho Municipal Urban Road Engineer, Prosper Anornu, who refused to appear before it, in relation to a case brought against him by the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
CHRAJ took the Urban Roads Engineer to the court when a Ho based contractor, Mr. Alex Zanu reported to it that he was among contractors who weeded Sokode-Gborgame�Abutia, Ziavi-Adukope road and desilted gutters, but the Engineer refused to sign documents that would allow payment to be done. The Engineer was then invited by CHRAJ to hear his version, but he (Anornu) refused to respond to the call on a number of occasions, which led to the matter being taken to the High Court.
Unfortunately the Urban Roads Engineer refused to appear before the court on the 16th and 19th June, 2014 which compelled the Judge, his Lordship Justice Agbevor to issue a bench warrant for his arrest. He however reported himself to the court on June 23, 2014, and was handed over to CHRAJ to continue with the case and settle the matter and report back to the court on the 3rd of July, 2014.
