Hannah Tetteh Mocks Demonstrators

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hannah Tetteh, yesterday expressed surprise at the low turnout of the Occupy Flagstaff House demonstration which took place on Republic Day, July 1, 2014 in Accra. Madam Tetteh made this remark on her twitter page with the handle, @HannahTetteh. Aside from mocking the demonstrators, the minister indicated that the number of people who turned up did not reflect the social media campaign that preceded the event itself. Some 300 people marched to the seat of government, Flagstaff House, to register their disquiet against what they called variously harsh economic conditions and bad governance in the country. According to the organisers, every Ghanaian deserved to be happy and we are tired of talking about hardship on social media. One of Madam Tettehs tweets read: Occupy Flagstaff House Crowd. The numbers were Well never mind. She tweeted again saying their social media campaign was much more effective than the actual turnout. Not satisfied with the above, she wrote again that every citizens concerns are important, but after listening to all of them being aired on radio & seeing the number involved it's surprising. In a sharp rebuttal, convener of the demonstration, Nana Akwasi Awuah, said those unfortunate comments from a member of government do not bother them. those are her [Hannah Tettehs] opinions and she is entitled to it. But we are happy with the turnout considering the time frame we had to put it together, he said.
