NDC Old Hawks Angry

Old hawks within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are seething with anger over the executives decision on errant Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, former Minister of Youth and Sports, and his Deputy Joseph Yammin. The aggrieved old hawks were of the view that the President should have asked the two ministers to step aside, while their stewardship, as far as the Brazil 2014 fiasco is concerned, is properly looked into. President Mahama just after Ghana was booted out from the World Cup in Brazil reassigned the two ministers that presided over Ghanas poor show at the Mundial. Afriyie-Ankrah, popularly called Tsooobooi, was reassigned to the Presidency, while Yammin has been posted to his home region, Ashanti, as the Deputy Regional Minister. Many Ghanaians, including some NDC big shots, expressed different views on the Presidnets move. The Enquirers flawless sources within the NDC have it that some old hawks met immediately after the President Decision at a location in Accra where they expressed their anger over the decision. At the meeting, which was held in the early hours of Monday, this week, it was decided that emissaries would be dispatched with immediate effect to the Presidency to register the anger of the old hawks to the President. In fact, it was resolved at the meeting that severe pressure would be mounted on the president to make the two step aside from his administration, although it was admitted that it is the Presidents sole prerogative to hire and fire. It was also resolved at the meeting that the President would be told not to entertain the use of special assistants by ministers. It is firmly believed that the old hawks took that resolution because Afriyie-Ankrahs brother, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, was serving him as his special assistant. Before the commencement of the World Cup, Yammin came under severe fire, especially from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), over his outburst that majority of supporters that the government would sponsor to Brazil would be NDC people. Interestingly, Afriyie-Ankrah, who at the time was Yammins boss, could not see any wisdom in condemning what his deputy said. The then minister himself was criticized before the Ghanaian contingent left for Brazil, as he was accused of arrogating many duties to himself and making members of various committees he himself had set up redundant. Afriyie-Ankrah was also accused of hijacking the roles of various traveling agents his ministry engaged to deal with various supporters while in Brazil. At a point when there were agitations over Appearance Fee by the playing body, as a minister, he could not handle the situation and it took the intervention of President Mahama before that issue was resolved. The then minister was even reported to have engaged a supporter in fisticuffs because the supporter had complained about how unfairly they were being treated in Brazil.
