West Africans To Have Common Biometric ID Card

All fifteen (15) heads of states of the Economic Community of West African states (ECOWAS) are due in Ghana for a midyear review summit. Top on the agenda is the consideration of a common biometric identification card for all citizens of West African states. Disclosing this, senior communications advisor with the presidency, Ben Dotse Malor stated, �these biometric ID cards should be sufficient to a point where residents� permits should probably not be required.� The ECOWAS summit should last from Thursday to Friday in the capital Accra. The midyear meeting is to review activities, projects and programs of the regional block for the first half of 2014. Mr. Ben Dotse Malor also added that peace and stability of some troubled countries including Mali and Guinea Bissau will also be top on the agenda.
