New Product To Fight Sanitation Unveiled

Natural Organics LTD (MVP) has released unto the Ghanaian market waste treatment products, Super Sewer and Super Septic, to help mitigate the soaring sanitation problems in Ghana. The super sewer and super septic is an organic multiple enzyme bio catalytic agent that biodegrades and digests organic containments in industrial and domestic waste. Speaking at the launch of the products in Accra yesterday, the President of the Natural Organics LTD, Mr. Sandy Osei Agyeman, lamented that how liquid waste management over the years has been a major challenge. For example, at lavender hill in Accra on daily bases, over 10,000m3 of untreated liquid waste is transported there for disposal into the sea. In addition to the unbearable stench that engulfs the area, the situation has the potential for causing outbreak of diseases such as cholera, dysentery, etc., in the city, he noted. According to the Metro Public Health Department of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), solid waste generated within the Metropolis is 65% organic both degradable and non-degradable while the inorganic accounts for 35%. These figures were assumed to be the case across the country, Mr. Osei-Agyeman noted. Proffering solution to the worrying spectacle, he said the long term solution would be to reduce the volume of waste by catalyzing its decomposition, liquefy and bio-degrade the solid waste, deodorize the stench by destroying the molecular structures which cause the problem. The products currently have been introduced in five African countries so far, South Africa, Tanzania, DR Congo, Liberia and Ghana. Field tests, according Mr. Osei-Agyeman, that were conducted 1996 by the South African Water and Sanitation Academy (SAWASA) and Accra Metropolitan Assembly Metro Public Health Department had shown that the product is good in the control of odour, flies and the reduction in volume of liquid waste, and could, therefore, assist in the waste management efforts of the country.
