Government Directs Ghana's Mission To Investigate Ghanaian Football Fans Seeking Asylum

Ghana's mission in Brazil has been directed to investigate the case in which some Ghanaian football fans in Brazil are reported to be seeking asylum in that country. Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Felix Kwakye Ofosu debunked claims by the asylum seekers that there is a religious conflict in the country. He said Ghana is one of the most stable and peaceful countries not just in the West African sub-region but also on the African continent. There are reports in the international media that more than 200 Ghanaian football fans have applied for asylum in Brazil. According to Brazilian Police and Justice Ministry, the supporters claim they are fleeing inter-religious conflicts. However, not long ago, Radio Ghana reported that most Ghanaian fans were running away from camp.
