Man Steals For Girlfriend

In a bid to win the love of his girlfriend, 24 year old Hakeem Baryo presented her with stolen items as a gift. Hakeem is to serve for the next seven years in the Wa Prisons, while his accomplice, Ahmed Iddrisu Mahammud, a student of Nandom Secondary Technical, is to pay a fine of GHC2,000 and to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 12 months or in default, serve 18 months imprisonment. The two were convicted and sentenced by the Wa Circuit Court presided over by Mr Isaac Bright Akwantei. Presecuting Inspector Daniel Yeboah said, on February 28, this year, at about 10:30pm, Patrina Maayi, a bar attendant at Bayilor in the Lawra District of the Upper West Region and her sister, were on their motorbike when Hakeem and his accomplice followed them with their motorbkike and upon reaching a section of the road, they crossed their path and forcefully collected a black student bag they were carrying. Content According to Mr Yeboah, the bag contained a cash sum of GHC130, one DVD player, a Nokia mobile phone, two memory cards and a bunch of keys. He said subsequently, Hakeem in a bid to prove his love to Asumoa Aminu his girlfriend, presented the stolen bag and its content to her as a gift. Aminu who had heard of the attack earlier on, became suspicious when the bag and its contents were presented to her. To ascertain the truth, on March 28, Aminu took the bag and its contents to Patrina�s house. Identification Inspector Yeboah said, Patrina immediately identified the items as her�s after which Asumoa took her to her boyfriend�s house and identified him as the one who gave the items to her. Patrina also identified Hakeem as one of the two guys who attacked them and took the items. Hakeem, however, denied the allegation and said it was Iddrisu Mahammud, who gave the bag and its contents to him. Subsequently, he said, a complaint was lodged with the Babile Police and Hakeem and his accomplice were arrested but they denied the allegation. Mr Yeboah said after investigations the two were charged for court.
