The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region has acquired two insulating aerial devices to be used to rectify electrical faults on its lines.
This means that the company will not have to shut down the stations in affected areas before embarking on repair works.
It will also drastically reduce the time in rectifying faults and also lessen outages as a result of servicing.
The acquisition forms part of plans of the company to improve on its services and be abreast of technology.
At a ceremony to demonstrate the use of the device, the acting Ashanti Regional General Manager of ECG, Mr Akinie Emmanuel Tetteh, said the device would greatly improve the operations of the company and allow its customers to enjoy continuous power supply even when carrying out repair works on its lines.
He said some personnel of the company had been trained to work on the equipment.
Each device, he added, would be manned by a five-member team that could be dispatched to all points within the region to carry out works on faulty lines.
Mr Admire Bvute from ESKOM South Africa, who trained the team, said the device used a special oil that needed to be changed every six months.
He said if well maintained, the device could last for more than 30 years. He said the team members had undergone series of training and was confident they could man the devices without any problem.
