Fire Guts Kumasi Central Market Again

The Kumasi Central Market has once again been gutted with fire. This is the third time the biggest market centre in the Ashanti region has been reduced to ashes this year. Hello FM's Sampson Nyamekye on Friday morning reported that the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has still not been able to put out the fire which started on Thursday around 8pm. According to him, over 60 shops in the Dr. Mensah section of the market dedicated to selling used clothes have been razed down amidst wailing from helpless market women. A combined team of police and military according to Sampson Nyamekye are having a hard time controlling the shop owners who are trying to salvage a few of their wares. Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kofi Boakye is calling for more fire tenders as the ones already at the scene are not enough to combat the raging fire.
