Seth Terkper On Criticisms: Even Siblings Disagree But I'm The One Who Holds The Purse

I think that even siblings disagreeand that is what makes them grow as solid people. It is about fiscal discipline; we have a budget,we must all make proper use of the resources which has been allocated to us and we must make sure that we live within the budget...,"Finance Minister, Seth Terkper told Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace Fm's "kokrokoo" programme Tuesday morning. The Finance Minister has received a lot of flak from his own people; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as well as Ghanaians at large for his handling of the dwindling economy. The National Chairman of the ruling NDC, Dr Kwabena Adjei, Central Regional Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, Alottey Jacobs are among the many and have openly chastised and called for the dismissal of the Minister of Finance for his inability to deal with the current economic crisis facing the country. (http://www.mydiamondradio.com/the-economy-is-broke-terkper-must-gondc-chairman-insists/) Other Members of Parliament and Ministers have also been complaining bitterly about Mr Terkpers refusal to release funds for various projects, adding he is part of the reasons why most of their projects have stalled. According to a section of the minority, he must be sacked for his inability to put the economy back on its feet, his economic management style and his bad human relations. Mr Seth Terkper speaking to these issues on Peace FMs premium morning show programme Kokrokoo, likened his relationship with his colleagues and even the opposition to that of a family, where siblings agree to disagree. According to him, I am the one who holds the purse and he must ensure that we dont exceed the budget allocated to us I think that even siblings disagreeand that is what makes them grow as solid people. It is about fiscal discipline; we have a budget,we must all make proper use of the resources which has been allocated to us and we must make sure that we live within the budget and so I happen to be the one to deliver that message in as much as we want developmentit is not that they are against me "...I happen to be the one who holds the purse and how many times have children not disagreed with daddy when they want to buy what their friends have? I have to look at the total of it. It is about fiscal discipline...we are a developing country and so we must make sure we live within our budget...well, I happen to be the one who holds the purse, he intimated.
