Ghanas Only Satellite Attacked!

At a time when global technology is going trough digital migration with some African countries trying to catch up with the rest of the world, Ghanas effort at migrating digitally is under serious threat as the country is losing its only satellite facility at Kuntunse near Accra to robust sand winning and estate developing. Due to the delicate nature of the facility and the fact that the satellite station has to do with cables and related materials, the then government acquired a large portion of land to protect the facility from being encroached upon. However, the one mile square meter portion of land allocated to the facility is fast being encroached upon by estate developers and other individuals. The situation is so pathetic that some faceless chiefs, families and other unscrupulous people are selling the land to innocent people while others are also sand-winning the land about 80 meters close to the facility. The Daily Heritage can report on authority that there are some houses already built on that portion of the land with occupants, while other developers were seen in the process of building when the paper visited the facility. What is more devastating is the fact that scientists have clearly stated that human habitation near the satellite device is very dangerous, particularly, for pregnant women and their unborn babies. The paper observed some strange people on the land trying to allocate a portion to a buyer, but, the people were forced to abandon the place when they saw our reporter approaching with the intent of asking whether they knew the land belongs to the government. The papers investigations have also revealed that management of the facility, Vodafone Ghana Limited is aware of the situation. We are aware of the development and have reported the issues to the property manager of the company and action is being taken at the management level, the papers source revealed. The source further stated that the sand winners always visit the site at dawn or sometimes late in the evening to carry out their nefarious activities with armed security. On the issue of stopping them, the source said one person cannot stop them and if you are not careful, they will kill you and bury you in the sand without anybody knowing, the source said. An attempt to unravel the faceless individuals behind the sale of the government land to estate developers took us to Pobiman, the immediate traditional area, but the team did not meet the chiefs and the traditional rulers.
