Organised Labour led by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have concluded its We are suffering demonstration held on Thursday, 24th July, 2014. Peace FM reporter, Akwasi Agyeman reports, the leadership of the Organised Labour and TUC decided to end the demonstration at the Black Star Square (Independence Square) instead of the Hearts of Oak park as initially planned. According to him, the leaders in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service made this decision because of the large crowd that joined the demonstration. Some of the demonstrators were holding placards with inscriptions which read; Mahama we are tired, Rise up workers of Ghana, Dont sell GNPC, Our economy is now on life support Speaking to the highly charged crowd, the TUC boss, Kofi Asamoah bemoaned the difficulties and hardship being faced by Ghanaians in the country and called on President John Dramani Mahama to as a matter of urgency put the economy back on track. He complained of the high cost of living, high utility tariffs, daily increment of prices on the market, the continuous fall of the cedi amongst others. Mr Asamoah on behalf of Organised Labour then presented a petition to the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu. Haruna Iddrisu on his part assured the demonstrators that things will soon stabilise in the economy. According to him, government is doing everything possible to ensure that conditions change for the better. He also promised to forward their petition to the President. Kumasi Sampson Nyamekye reporting from the Ashanti Region described the protest as a peaceful one. According to him, workers clad in red and black attire, gathered as early as 6 am ready to partake in the demonstration. Volta Region Even though most of the regions recorded a high turn out for the demonstration, Volta Region had a low turn out according to our reporter. The low turn out did not discourage the rest of the workers who were determined to send their message across to government. Below are some of the pictures
