Drama Over Fake Police Chief [PHOTO]

Drama unfolded yesterday at the Weija District Police Command when a fake senior police officer who was reported for allegedly assaulting a neighbour was rather given a rousing salute by junior police officers at the station when he reported himself. Being honoured by the salute, the suspect, identified as Christian Aboagye, 25 years, who was in police uniform depicting three stars as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), went straight to the District Commander to introduce himself. Superintendent Shaibu Osei, the district commander upon observing the suspects demeanour for some time, suspected him as an imposter and caused his arrest. The Assault Briefing DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Paul Kontomah, the Accra Regional Crime Officer said the suspect was apprehended yesterday morning. On Tuesday July 22, 2014, one Gloria, a Nigerian reported at the Weija District Police Station that one DSP Aboagye had threatened to assault her. The suspect, DSP Aboagye, was then called on the telephone to report himself at the station and that a threat case had been levelled against him by the investigator. He reported himself at the station yesterday morning as a Deputy Superintendent of Police stationed at the Finance Department of headquarters. The suspect then sought permission from the investigator to let him go back home to shower, seek permission from his superiors and return later. Not less than 20 minutes, the complainant visited the station again with bruises on her face to report that DSP Aboagye upon his return had assaulted her for reporting him. Police then issued a medical report to the complainant for health care and the fake DSP was invited again. In less than 30 minutes, the suspect arrived in his VW vehicle in police uniform depicting three stars together with his cap indicating that he was a deputy superintendent of police. Upon getting to the charge office, the junior police officer on duty who saw the three stars thought a senior police officer had visited and immediately stood up to salute him. The suspect returned the salute and immediately entered the district commanders officer. While chatting with the district commander, he immediately realised that the suspect was a fake police officer and instantly caused his arrest. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he got attracted to the profession and therefore sewed his own uniform which he often wore. When a search was conducted in his apartment, nothing incriminating was found on him. The suspect later asked that he be forgiven for what he did. At the community where he lived, some of the neighbours told the police that they all knew him to be a senior police officer and accorded him that respect. He will be charged for impersonation and sent to court soon
