PPP Calls On EOCO To Investigate RLGs Tax Evasion Saga

A member of the Communication Team of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP,) John Sterlin, has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to commission a full-scale investigation into local telecommunication company, Rlgs tax evasion scandal. There is a growing controversy in the country after the startling revelation by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi Constituency in the Ashanti region, Kwaku Kwarteng of alleged tax evasion by the local ICT giant. According to the Obuasi MP, since President Mahama took office Rlg has fraudulently been enjoying tax benefits. Speaking on Net 2 TV yesterday in Accra, Mr. Sterlin, who was unhappy about the increasing rate of corrupt practices in Ghana, described the Rlg tax evasion scandal as a stinky move. He argued that the silence posture of President Mahama on setting up a committee to investigate this high-profile criminal act of the company constitutes double standard and a great disservice to Ghana. He stressed that President Mahama should charge EOCO to probe the company on the matter, adding that the company has been involved in series of corrupt practices since its establishment which has not been investigated. According to him, the diabolic move by the company to discreetly benefit from the nations tax concession is a complete breach of the law, insisting that Rlg needs to be investigated to unravel the truth. Meanwhile, Rlg in a statement has denied the allegation, insisting that the company has never benefited from any tax exemptions.
