The constituency chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Kwabre East, Alhaji Aziz Awal has heavily descended on the Methodist Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese, Rt Rev. Kwaku Ayensu lambasting him over his recent comments on President Mahama�s presentation of thirteen pick-ups vehicles to the National House of Chiefs.
Launching a scathing attack on the priest, the chairman said it was unfortunate for Rev Ayensu of his caliber to stoop low by allowing his political affliction to sway his attention from a sensitive issue that has to do with traditional leaders.
Pouring his venom on the priest in an interview with this reporter, Alhaji Awal noted that the pronouncements by the bishop was not only discriminatory against the authority of the traditional rulers, but a complete arrogance and affront to significant pivotal roles of the traditional authorities.
It would be recalled that about a week ago President Mahama on behalf of the government presented 13 brand new pick-ups to the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi to help its members to reach the hinterlands in the conduct of their research, but days after the donation, Rev Ayensu among other political elements made the loudest noise describing the presentation as a bribe.
He said Rev. Ayensu and his cohorts who have been injecting politics into the presentation of the pick-ups to the chiefs should bear in mind that similar donation was made to the house by former president John Agyekum Kufuor.
� If we want to politicize everything I don�t think we can leave behind any meaningful legacy for those who would take over from us.
�To those criticizing the president for not channeling the cost involved in purchasing the vehicles to other pressing areas, where were they when our MPs were granted rent and car allowances?�� he quizzed.
He charged Rev. minister to render unqualified apology to the country�s traditional leader because they the custodians of the people.
