Parliamentarian Urges Catering Firms To Improve Service Delivery

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior, Mr Fritz Baffour, has urged Ghanaian catering firms to use modern methods to improve their service delivery. He said since the world was becoming more technology-oriented, there was the need for institutions such as hotels and tourism centres to use advanced technologies that would attract more investors and increase their returns. Mr Baffour said this at the opening of Ghanas office of Just Food, dealers in food solutions and equipment, in Accra. The company, which has its headquarters in Nigeria, supplies modern equipment, including Rational apparatus, a machine that produces different types of food at the same time. Tourism sector Mr Baffour, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma South, said one major way to turn tourism into a major revenue earner was for hospitality centres to invest in the upgrading of their services. If the country wants to attract high-spending visitors and tourists, then our hospitality centres must do well to employ a competent labour force and use modern machines, he said. Mr Baffour expressed the hope that the opening of a Just Food branch in Ghana would go a long way to improve the hospitality industry. Improve services The Chief Operating Officer of Just Food, Mrs Winifred Baffour, said the companys equipment was modern and advanced, making it easier for the preparation of different types of food. She, however, raised issues with how foods were prepared in most hotels in the country. According to Mrs Baffour, most hospitality centres and hotels in the country did not use appropriate equipment in the preparation of their food. She particularly mentioned the preparation of ice cream, which she said was mostly done in an unhygienic manner, adding, The machines are not sterilised before and after their use, which makes them risky for consumers.
