All Nations Miniature Satellite Ground Station On Course

The much-awaited Satellite Ground Station by the All Nations University College (ANU), in its quest to put Ghana among space science nations in the world, is about to be implemented. It follows the resolve of the All Nations University College to design and build an Amateur Satellite Ground Station this year. The planned Miniature Satellite Ground Station is to be used in tracking Amateur Satellites in orbit, train engineers in Space and Satellite Engineering, and for research purposes that will enhance both institutional and industrial activities in the sub-region. The successful implementation of the project would, not only earn ANU the credit of being the first university to have successfully designed and built a miniature satellite called CanSat in the sub-region, but also the first University to build a Satellite Ground Station. The Intelligent Space Systems Laboratory (ISSL) team of ANU, which has demonstrated its preparedness to surmount all odds to succeed, is tirelessly working to update the Scientific CV of Ghana, by registering Ghana in the book of space science countries. The Project Manager of ISSL, Mr. Benjamin Bonsu, has hinted that the team has executed all hardware integration and Ssoftwares needed for the project. In a related development, Mr. Benjamin Bonsu has won a coveted award from Hamsphere, a software amateur radio simulator that allows licensed radio amateurs and unlicensed enthusiasts to communicate with one another using a simulated ionosphere. The said amateur radio simulator allows one to send voice messages to many amateur radio operators worldwide using 77HS336 as his call sign. The President of Hamsphere, Mr. Kelly Lindman, who signed the DXHC Bronze Award, indicated that Mr. Benjamin Bonsu, on July 1, 2014, submitted evidence to Hamsphere showing two-way communications with other amateur radio stations and radio enthusiasts in at least 25 different countries on the virtual Amateur Radio bands of Hamsphere. With this feat, Mr. Bonsu, using QTH as member, has placed the All Nations University College as the first in Ghana to communicate with amateur radio operators worldwide. Mr. Bonsu has stressed the need to study science-based programmes to help change the scientific destiny of Ghana, and gave the assurance that the ISSL team will continue to encourage the study of science in the youth.
