21 Police Officers Sacked

Twenty-one police personnel were dismissed from the Police Service in the first quarter of 2014 for various acts of misconducts according to the Ghana Police Service. Out of the number, two were Corporals, 15 were Lance Corporals, and four Constables. Nine personnel, including one Superintendent, one Chief lnspector, one Corporal and six Lance Corporals, were also reduced in rank. A Chief Superintendent and one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) were also sacked within the period. In addition, a Lance Corporal and one Constable were severely reprimanded while two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP), two Lance Corporals and two Constables (Const.) were rep�rimanded. One Constable was served with a letter of caution. Speaking to the issue in an interview on Peace FM morning show �Kokrokoo�, DSP Cephas Arthur, Director of Public Administration of the Ghana Police Service said they want to maintain discipline in the service 'as much as we can' and so police personnel have been cautioned to be careful of their activities. Even though he could not confirm immediately the number of personnel who have been sacked, he said no one will be spared if the department's rules and regulations are violated. The 121 police personnel were disciplined on grounds of misconduct, indulging in civil cases, with-holding of exhibit, and unprofessional handling of cases to misappropriation of exhibits. Others are police brutality, harass�ment, extortion, undue delay of inves�tigation, and causing damage. The rest are unfair treatment, enlist�ment fraud, and motor accident.
