Head Porter To Serve 12 Years For Robbery, Causing Harm

The Accra Circuit Court last Thursday jailed a head porter 12 years with hard labour for robbing and inflicting knife wounds on five persons, including students, at Teshie Maami in Accra. The convict, Abraham Adjetey Adjei, laid ambush, attacked and inflicted knife wounds on his victims after robbing them. He was charged with five counts of robbery and causing harm. He pleaded guilty on robbery and was sentenced on his own plea. Background Prosecuting, Inspector Kwabena Adu told the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, that the complainants were students, a driver and a welder who stayed at Teshie Maami, Teshie Roman, Teshie 1st Junction and Madina, respectively. The convict, he said, was a head porter and stayed at Teshie Krobo, also in Accra. On July 12, 2014, Inspector Adu said the first complainant, Fritz Ankrah, went to a nearby bush at Teshie Maami to attend to the call of nature and on his way back, the convict held him and pulled a knife on him. Adjei searched Ankrahs pocket and removed GH15 and not being content, he stabbed him in the stomach with a knife and collected his Samsung mini-mobile phone. On July 28 this year, the prosecutor said Adjei, at knife point, attacked and robbed the second complainant, Kwasi Appiah, of his Samsung handset and a cash of GH40. The convict, sometime ago, also hid himself at the same bush at Teshie Maami, attacked and robbed the third complainant, Thomas Obeng, of his rlg mobile phone which he sold at GH40. During the same period, Adjei attacked and inflicted various degrees of injuries on the fourth complainants head and took away his GH15, Chief Inspector Adu said. However, on August 1, 2014, the watch dog committee members at Teshie Maami, who received information about Adjeis nefarious activities, spotted him at Teshie Maami and informed the police. He was subsequently arrested and when he was searched, the police found a Samsung mobile phone that belonged to Kwasi Appiah.
