Tema Explosion Victims Responding To Treatment

Victims who sustained injuries in the gas explosion that occurred on Wednesday at Tema Community 12 are responding well to treatment, the Tema Regional Police Command has said. The explosion which occurred at about 11:45 hours claimed the lives of Nana Appiah Danso, II, Akyem Techimanhene and three other persons. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Turkson, Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that the three other victims who were rushed to the Tema General Hospital after the incident are responding to treatment. ASP Turkson said one of the victims whose condition was serious has been operated upon at the Burns Department of the hospital and was also responding to treatment. On Tuesday, residents of Tema Community 12, Valco area, were thrown into a state of shock and mourning when they heard a loud explosion followed by death and the scattering of human parts. The explosion which is alleged to be as a result of excessive heat from containers of expired gunpowder used for the production of matches also ripped off roofs of other houses, reducing louver blades to smooth powder.
