I Was Upset To See Prez Mahama Cleaning Gutters Kwami Sefa Kayi

Leadership, they say, is by example; but not all leadership examples are set to be emulated if the results are deemed not to be positive. Host of Peace FMs Kokrooko, 'Chairman General' Kwami Sefa Kayi, is unenthused and has questioned the rationale behind President John Dramani Mahamas decision to personally descend into the gutter simply to demonstrate to Ghanaians the need to clean up their environment frequently so as to stay healthy. On 30th August, 2014, President Mahama, together with some government officials and the Major of Accra, Alfred Vanderpuije, descended into filthy drains and went round garbage-choked spots at James Town, a slum area of Accra, to undertake a cleanup exercise. According to the president, it was unacceptable for Ghanaians to be dying of cholera in this 21st century. President Mahama's action, is an exact replica of a fruitless exercise by former President Rawlings some years ago when he was head of state. However, it appears his act of "symbolism" to give the city a facelift, has not impressed the Chairman-General. When I saw my president at La Clinic, I knew he cared for me, when I see him at Atuabo I know he cares for me but I was upset to see him in the gutters. The president should not have gone into those gutters. The AMA by-laws must be made to work. He must instruct the AMA boss to ensure that the work is done. We dont need Mahama in the gutters to keep our surroundings clean, the seasoned journalist noted on both Monday and Wednesdays edition of Kokrokoo.
