Investigative Report: Kotobabi Has Only 1 Public Toilet With Water Closets Installed

Inasmuch as digestion would always take place, humans are expected to pass out the waste that comes out from the process. Living in Kotobabi, a commune within Accra, is hell. Investigations have shown that access to toilet facilities is inadequate in the area. The outbreak of cholera makes the case worse as many of the residents are into the wrap and throw system. Residents in the area explained to Peace FMs Akwasi Agyemang that the wrap and throw involves defecating into polythene bags and throwing about. As at now, one person has died as a result of Cholera and a resident of the area, Nii Ashley reveals that only three public toilets have been established in the entire community - Out of the three, he claims only one has been constructed with water closet set. Living here is not comfortable especially at night or when it begins to rain. Because we dont have toilets in our various homes, it has become a norm for people who dont want to pay money before using the public toilets to do ease themselves in polythene bags or in open gutters. Our area stinks and sometimes we try to clean the place up through clean up exercises but within a short time, we get the place messed up, he said.
