Professor Edmund Delle, President of the African Commission of Health and Human Rights Promoters, has expressed concern about the shortage of dermatologists and allied professionals on the African continent.
He noted that there are fewer than 300 dermatologists in Africa - a figure he said is woefully inadequate and should radically improve through deliberate efforts.
Prof Delle, who is also the Founder of Rabito clinic, said the skin is the largest organ of the human body and that its relevance in medical care, particularly in the diagnoses of diseases in general, must never be underestimated.
He was speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Clinic held in Kumasi.
He called for the training of more dermatologists and allied health professionals, building of skin specialist hospitals and provision of sufficient laboratory equipment for efficient healthcare delivery.
