Deputy Education Minister in-charge of tertiary Institutions Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has said rumours circulating on social media that the Education Minister Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman has directed that basic schools postpone reopening dates to enable her get rid of pupils teachers are false. He said �it is so sad that people will concoct these messages and put it in the name of my boss Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman�. Speaking on Radio Gold�s �Ahaji Alhaji� programme, Mr Ablakwa explained that the normal practice is that pupil teachers are employed on contract basis for a period of one year but could be renewed for another year. �These are people who have helped in times when there is an acute shortage of teachers and we are not getting rid of them�. He added that pupil teachers are given the opportunity to undertake an upgrade programme which will enable them become professional teachers. He said reopening dates of basic schools has not been postponed and that all measures have been put in place to allow for teaching and learning in schools to go on smoothly. Also, all Senior High Schools (SHS) are expected to reopen on the 16 of September and there has been no postponement in reopening dates of tertiary institutions either, he added.
