Govt Must Protect Journalists - Prophet

Prophet Albert Asihene-Arjarquah of the Koforidua Calvary Assembly of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana has described as unacceptable increasing assault of journalists in Ghana with a call on government to urgently take concrete measures to protect Journalists in the country to help deepen democracy. According to him, democracy cannot be deepened without free press, hence, the need for the media landscape to be safeguarded. Prophet Arjarquah said government must end the impunity against journalists by putting in place investigative and prosecutorial procedures that are effective to put those who launch physical attack on Journalists on trial to serve as deterrent to others. He said this in an interview with the DAILY HERITAGE in Koforidua during an inter-denominational 31-day fasting and prayers which ended on Sunday. The program was attended by many believers across the length and breadth of the country. It was under the theme: Breaking demonic limitations for divine advancement. Prophet Arjarquah further stated that the importance of the media cannot be undermined, adding that the media serves as gatekeepers of society, watchmen to those in leadership positions, voice for the voiceless and in Christianity, serves as a catalyst for evangelism by helping to broadcast the scriptures and also expose the bad nuts in the religion. The comment of the prophet came on the heels of recent assault on journalists in Ghana. Its noted that over 100 journalists have been attacked from January 2012 to July 2014 in the country, a development many stakeholders have condemned and called for a paradigm shift in uprooting the menace. Prophet Arjarquah, however, called on Journalists not to be corrupted to enable the institution live up to its expectation of "unrelenting strive of verifiable truth tellers" as echoed in the scriptures by God in John 18:37 which reads"....I came into the world to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of the truth listen to me now." Speaking on the economy, Prophet Arjarquah urged Christians to continue to pray for God's direction for the leadership of the country in its quest to find solutions to the economic challenges. He added his voice to the need for concerted effort by all Ghanaians to end corruption and indiscipline that are engulfing the country and urged Christians to live as agents of change. The program was climaxed with an all believers all night session which was graced with anointed performances by Diana Hammond and Sister Edna, both renowned gospel musicians in the country. Many received deliverance, healing and prophecies and live testimony of breakthrough.
