IGP & CID Boss Wake To NPP Violence

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director General of Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), have woken up to their responsibility to deal with the growing incidence of political violence rearing its ugly head in the country, especially within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). The IGP, Mohammed Alhassan and CID boss, Prosper Agblor, have started summoning party activists some of who were captured on camera to assist them deal with the thuggery and armed attacks that were recorded at the NPP headquarters. So far, Hajia Fati Amadu and Moses Abor, have both made appearances before the (CID), and granted bail. The police administration, has also giving the NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a 24-hour security protection, by having plain-cloth police to protect them, after having been threatened with the heinous crime of death. The invitations and security protection, follows The Heralds publication of various politically-motivated gun, machete, bottles and cudgels attacks at the NPP headquarters, Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Nana Akufo-Addos Nima residence, but have gone unpunished, despite various complaints filed at the Nima Police Station. Also being investigated by the Ghana Police Service (GPS), is the attack on Ibrahim Atuluk, an aide to the NPP National Chairman. Ibrahim Atuluks, case was taken over by the CID headquarters, after the Nima District Police Command, failed to do it primary job of investigating, arresting and prosecuting those behind the many violent cases filed by victims of the NPPs internal wrangling. Exactly a week ago, a leading member of the NPP, Hajia Fati Amadu, was arrested by the Police to answer questions. Hajia Fati Amadu and another member of the NPP, Moses Abor, were arrested for insulting and attacking party chairman, Paul Afokos aide, Atuluk after an ill-fated press conference. Hajia Fati, who has contested for the position of Vice-Chairman of the NPP during the Tamale Congress, is reported to have said that her partys General Secretary, was going to be burnt to death as happened to his slain father, Justice Agyapong and three others, during the PNDC regime. Last Tuesday, 46-year-old Atuluk, who has already gone through two successful surgeries, admitted to The Herald in a telephone interview that he has lodged compliant at the CID to arrest the two, whom he suspect masterminded that attack which left him with a broken arm on August 31, 2014. The ex-COCOBOD employee, explained to The Herald that, he needed to go the extra mile to get the case looked at, at the highest office of the police administration, because he had information that one of his attackers claims the Nima Commander is his girl friend and so nothing would be done to him. The two suspects are to appear at the CID headquarters today for the investigation to continue. Atuluk tells this paper he had to mention the two for separate reasons. In the case of Hajia Fati Amadu, Atuluk, said he had to mention her name, because he felt she could lead the Police to arrest the three hoodlums, because on that fateful day when he was attacked, they mentioned that he [Atuluk] had insulted Hajia. He also said that on several occasions, Hajia had alleged that he had beating her up, an allegation he flatly denied. Moses Abor on the other hand, Atuluk revealed, was the one who brought the first assailants, who ahead of the Super Delegates Congress in August, attacked him with a pistol at the party headquarters, during which he was badly beaten. Paul Afokos aide revealed that the pistol was brought from Moses Abors vehicle. On his health condition, Atuluk who was discharged from the hospital weeks ago, revealed that he would be visiting the hospital to do an x-ray to assess the level of improvement of the surgeries on October 1. He is, however, hopeful that this time round, the Police will do an extensive work to bring his attackers to face the full rigours of the law. He has, meanwhile, challenged a member of a pressure group within the NPP, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), Hopeson Adorye to prove allegation that he Atuluk, is a fraudster, a reason he was beaten to pulp. Atuluk, expressed surprise at the behaviour of Hopeson, an ardent supporter of the 2012 presidential candidate of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom he says does not even know him that well. He questioned the basis upon which Hopeson, made the claim and asked that he be arrested to tell who really attacked him, since he was aware of the reason why he was attacked. Hopeson Adorye, I am surprised about the way he has become so much involved in this matter. Hopeson Adorye, you are not my friend. You dont even know me until recently when he saw me and called me Atuluk, and I said yes and he said aaah ok. He is not my friend, but me I know him very well, because when he was crossing carpet from NDC to NPP, I was there at Kpone-Katamanso, so I know him, but he doesnt know me. All of a sudden, he has become a witness in this case and the unfortunate thing is that he is going round peddling lies that I did business with some people concerning visa, that was why they attacked me. SoI am challenging him if he knows somebody that I have done business with that attacked me, he should let us know the people. I want the Police to invite him to ask him to provide the man who I owe that was why who attack me, Atukuk said He said I was attacked because of the business so he knows the people. Initially, they were going round saying that when I was attacked my wife was going round looking for money to go and pay for the hospital bill, then I also sent a message across that oh this bill was paid for 150 million, we paid. Initially, it was 100million, and after the surgeries we added 50miilion, so they realized that the thing was not flying, so now they went round to say that I had some business with some people and because of that they attacked me and he was saying this on radio, Choice FM. So I asked myself, why he is so interested in this matter, he narrated. A press conference by the national executives of the NPP, turned bloody when some angry party youth stormed the headquarters with machetes, guns, bottles and other dangerous implements. Some supporters of the party, who were present sustained various degrees of injuries, while a vehicle belonging to the NPP National Womens Organizer, Otiko Djaba, was vandalized. The NPP press conference was to address controversies over the decision to make the partys acting Communications Director; Perry Okudzeto proceed on a two-year accumulated leave and also the setting up of a foreign account and the withdrawal of money from same.
