Govt Tractor At Mercy Of Scrap Dealers

A GRADER machine bearing the registration number GT 5323-09 belonging to the Kwawu East Municipal Assembly in the Eastern region has been abandoned for over eight months after it broke down on the Nkawkaw-Oda road near the timber market. The vehicle which has been left under the mercy of the weather by the assembly has some vital parts stolen by the scrap dealers in the area. It is also blocking the view of incoming vehicles plying the Oda road. According to Kwasi Agyei, a lumber merchant at the timber market who spoke to the DAILY HERITAGE, the construction vehicle broke down about eight months ago on its way to Nkawkaw. Mr. Agyei said the following day, two people were spotted where the vehicle broke down, and so he thought they had come to repair or tow the vehicle away. But, after some few minutes inspection they left and had since the never returned. A 54-year-old man and a resident in the area said there was no surveillance on the vehicle especially in the night and that the parts have been left at the mercy of scrap dealers and thieves. It is unfortunate that the vehicle which belongs to the municipality has been abandoned in such a way at the expense of the taxpayer, l believe if it were one of the saloon cars belonging to an assembly official it would not lie there for such a long time.'' Kwasi Amponsah, a driver who plies the road said the broken down vehicle has no caution sign and if one is not conversant with the road one may run into it. He said so far about nine vehicles have crashed into it.
