The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kwabre East Constituency chairman, Alhaji Aziz Awal has entreated political activists to desist from politicizing issues bordering on cocoa production in the country.
He noted that matters concerning cocoa which is the major driving force of the country�s economy should rather receive collective inputs from the citizens in particular, the politicians devoid of political sentiments.
Alhaji Awal Jabbede, New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Kwadaso, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie was not satisfied with what the government had done for cocoa farmers by increasing the producer price heavily.
According to him, office tenure of political leadership would expire but the cocoa farmers whose pivotal contribution has sustained the economy of the country to this far would never change under any government .
"It is just a move to score political point that was why our friends from other side were trying to create enmity between the farmers and the government," he said.
It would be recalled that recently the John Mahama led administration astronomically increased the producer price of the international commodity to Ghc 350 per a bag of 64 kilograms pegging a tone (16 bags) to Gh 5,520.00, but the Kwadaso MP has been jumping from one radio station to another campaigning against the government with the view that it ought to have paid between Ghc 480.00 and Ghc 540.00 to the farmers.
Alhaji Awal commended the government for taking the plight of hard working cocoa farmers into consideration, hence, the increased in the producer price.
He used the encounter with the paper to admonish the members of the mass cocoa spraying team to stop doing politics with the exercise.
"The cocoa spraying exercise is meant to increase the country; s cocoa production, therefore I want to caution the sprayers to disassociate politics from the whole programme and rather go every length to spray all farms," he advised. He also urged the government to supply the farmers with other inputs on time to enable them to have a bumper harvest.
