More Roads Constructed In BA To Boost Cocoa Production

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has, since 2012, constructed 302.85 kilometres of roads in the Brong Ahafo Region to enhance economic activities in the region. The projects were executed at a cost of GH�192.5 million. The roads include Ampomah-Anyinam, Prang-Kintampo, Berekum-Seikwa, Dormaa Ahenkro-Nkrankwanta and Techimantia-Akomadan. The Department of Feeder Roads (DFR) has also undertaken the construction of 533.29 kilometres of roads at a cost of GH�60,440,217. 23 under the cocoa roads improvement project across the region. The exercise has led to improvement in the road network in cocoa growing communities in the region. The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, outlined the work that had been done on roads in the region at a forum in Sunyani dubbed, �Government for People�s Forum�. It was held on the theme, �People matter! You matter! Everybody matters!� Cocoa roads He said under the new cocoa roads programme for 2014/2015, 341.6 kilometres of feeder roads in cocoa growing areas in the region had been earmarked for upgrading to bituminous surface roads and rehabilitation at an estimated cost of GH�203.6 million Total feeder road network in the Brong Ahafo Region is 7,304 kilometres, comprising 3,228 kilometres of engineered roads, 835 kilometres of partially engineered roads and 3,241 kilometres of un-engineered roads. Mr Opoku said the massive boost to the roads sector in the region was in line with the government�s commitment to increase cocoa production. Health Touching on the health sector, he said the government had provided the Sunyani Regional Hospital with medical equipment worth US$7 million, as well as medical supplies worth US$5 million for the district hospitals in the region among other interventions. He also talked about detailed measures that had been taken to increase the supply of potable water in the Sunyani municipality, as well as electrification in the region.
