Fatau Dauda Confident of Securing Back Number One Spot at Black Stars

Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda says he is confident of claiming back the number one spot at both the Back Stars and Ashanti Gold. The 29-year-old has made a return to Ghana after a difficult stint in South Africa with Orlando Pirates and Chippa United respectively. The Black Stars shoot-stopper who terminated his contract with Chippa United after failing to have a successful stint at Pirates is optimistic of securing himself a starting role at both club and country. Dauda, whom for the last three games have played second fiddle to Stephen Adams in the Black Stars is however positive of getting back the top spot when given the opportunity once again. Goalkeeping is different. When you are not playing it doesnt mean you are not good, he told the press after an in-camera sitting with the Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday. Even after the World Cup, some goalkeepers who kept the post for their various national teams are playing and some are also not playing. If you are not playing it doesnt mean you are not good. And in the national team we are all playing to make our nation proud, so anyone who is chosen to play should be given the needed support. So far as am in the game as still learning, and football is about opportunity. The former Okwawu United gloves-man also took the opportunity to send his condolences to the family of former team-mate at Orlando Pirates Senzo Meyiwa who passed on last Saturday after he was shot by armed robbers. I will like to use this opportunity to send my condolences to his family, he added. He was my friend when I was at Pirates. We were in the same complex and I sometimes joined his car whenever going for training. So I was very sad when I heard the news. I heard the news immediately the incidence happened and called South Africa to find out whether it was true and I got to know it was true. So is very painful. Fatau Dauda has joined his former Club Ashanti Gold after signing a one-year deal with the Obuasi-based club last month. He however faces stiff competition from goalkeeper Robert Dabou who mounted the post for the Miners last season and helped them to finish third in the League.
