Police Arrests Accused Robber, Sex Offender

A suspected robber, believed to be one of a three-member-gang, in Kumasi, who robbed and sexually assaulted a mother and her 14-year-daughter, has been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Kelvin Adjei Frimpong is currently assisting the Department to hunt for his two accomplices. Superintendent Peter Baba, the Regional Crime Officer, briefing the media in Kumasi said, on August 11, this year, at about 0300hours, the complainant (name withheld) was sleeping with her three children at their residence at Gyinyase in Kumasi. The woman, whose husband was not in the house, was woken from her sleep by an unusual noise. In an attempt to ascertain where the noise was coming from, she unlocked the door to their room to peep, but the armed gang who were just the door post immediately forced their way into the room and demanded amidst slaps on her face that she surrendered all the money she had on her. They allegedly robbed her of mobile phones, a cash of GH1,600.00, two wrist watches, her husbands wallet containing an unspecified amount of money as well as his car keys. The gang also were said to have forcibly removed her golden wedding ring from her finger. According to the Police, Frimpong then ordered the woman and her 14-year-old daughter to strip naked to which they obliged, and after inserting his fingers in their private parts wanted to have sexual intercourse with them, but this was resisted by one of his colleagues resulting in some confusion. Fearing that the misunderstanding that ensued would attract the neighbours, they fled. A formal report was made to the Asoka Police. On November 3, in the morning, the complainant spotted Frimpong driving a taxi cab close to her shop at Amakom and with the help of Police visibility team, Kelvin was arrested and handed over to the Asokwa Police.
