Morocco Pulls Out As Host AFCON 2015

Morocco will not host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, an official statement from the northern African countrys sports ministry said. The country is asking CAF to postpone the tournament for a year because of the deadly Ebola virus that has ravaged three West African countries Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. But the government statement did not answer an ultimatum from the continents football governing body calling on Morocco to say whether it would still host the tournament from January 17 to February 8, 2015. According to the statement, Morocco is now faced with "a strictly health linked case of force majeure" in making its call for a postponement "from 2015 to 2016". Morocco had already called on Caf to push back the tournament but African football bosses had refused to change the dates. Caf will meet on Tuesday to decide its next step. It is evident that CAF will now need to shop for new hosts, less than two months to the start of the tournament on January 17, 2015. Morocco will be fined $50000 and face a four-year ban from all continental competitions club and national levels. Nigeria and Angola are in pole positions to host the tournament.
