Renowned Catholic Musicologist, Rev. Bro. Pius Agyeman has called for serious brainstorming on ways to fuse the Ghanaian culture with the tenets of democracy. Speaking on NEAT 100.9 he stated that, ��we must rethink the way and manner we have practiced our democracy over the years. A democracy in which, many have no respect for Chiefs, much less culture and customs�. The Catholic Priest made these known during a panel discussion on the relevance of the chieftaincy institution in present day Ghana. And the discussion came concided with news that the Aburihene, Otubour Djan Kwesi II had allegedly slapped a taxi driver for exhibiting bad driving skills. According to the Aburihene, the taxi driver by name Asiedu Daniel exchanged words with him after politely approaching him in an attempt to warn him of the dangers of his behavior on the road. However, many including Rev. Bro. Pius Agyeman is of the view that such an incident took place because to the fact that there is no reverence for the office of a chief. To those of this school of thought, the Aburihene is the custodian of culture, traditions and customs, and no one must attempt to drag the name of the stool he occupies or the office in mud for the simple fact that we are practicing democracy. Rev. Bro. Pius Agyemang maintained that only a conscious effort to bring democracy and the chieftaincy institution of the country together would ensure the true benefits of democracy.
