Afrobarometer Report Not Objective- Energy Ministry

The Energy Ministry has downplayed the latest Afrobarometer survey on electricity consumption. The latest Afrobarometer survey revealed that 75% of Ghanaians ranked the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), as the worst public service delivery agency. According to the report, most Ghanaians are dissatisfied with governments delivery of public services such as electricity, healthcare, education, water and sanitation, and road maintenance. But speaking on Eyewitness News,a Communications Consultant at the Energy Ministry, Edward Bawa argued that there has been a drastic improvement in terms of electricity supply. Mr Bawa said irrespective of what the survey says, the situation is now totally different from what is stated in the research. He argued that the total electricity generated in 2008 was 7,219.4 jigawatts hours and in 2013 were 10,583.2 jigawatts hours which vividly shows the improvement in electricity supply. According to him, the amount of power consumed at the end of 2013 is also an improved version compared to 2008. He was however quick to add that Ghanaians lack access to constant power supply . He therefore challenged the sector to improve its supply systems, saying the survey is a sense of challenge for the energy sector to do better irrespective of the fact that there has been an improvement.
