Tier 2 Pension Court Case Adjourned

The legal showdown between government and the twelve labour unions over the disagreement of over who manages the tier two pension fund has been adjourned to November 24 by the Industrial Court of Accra. This was as a result of the Attorney Generals (AG) department receiving their affidavit in opposition to the matter presided over by Justice Kweku Gyan Saeed in Accra yesterday. The unions were dragged to court after government had filed the suit against the 12 unions forming the Forum of Public Sector Registered Pensions Scheme who rejected proposition to manage the funds, without recourse to the unions. Despite assurance from government to the unions that the funds are in the custody of the Central Bank, the members vehemently protested and laid down their tools for a two-week period. The deputy AG Dr. Dominic Ayine represented government while Godfred Dame and Dr. Justice Yankson stood in for the labour unions. The two are contesting who manages the second-tier pension funds under the National Pensions Act of 2008.
