Kofi Manu, Nunoo Mensah Subpoenaed By Presidential Commission

Two sports personalities, Ben Nunoo Mensah and Kofi Manu, are to appear before the Justice Dzamefe Presidential Commission of Inquiry by Saturday. The two men have been invited to substantiate allegations made against a member of the commission, Mr Kofi Anokye Owusu Darko, on an Accra-based radio station last week. The commission is formally extending invitation to the gentlemen to substantiate the allegations made within four days from Wednesday, December 17, 2014, said a statement signed by the counsel for the commission, Mr Jonathan Acquah. The statement categorically denied that Mr Anokye Owusu Darko had engaged in such acts as alleged by the two sports personalities on Happy FM which sought to question the integrity of Mr Anokye, as well as indict the work of the commission. The invitation comes at a time the Justice Dzamefe Commission is close to submitting its report. Mr Nunoo Mensah, chairman of the Ghana Weightlifting Association and Kofi Manu alias Blue Boy and director of operations of Medeama FC, are alleged to have said that Mr Anokye was part of a group which plotted to unseat Kwesi Nyantakyi as president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA. They are also alleged to have stated that Mr Anokye was among the conspirators, who through a grand design, sought to unsettle the various sports associations under the then National Sports Council. But the statement by the commission said: These false allegations and assertions constitute patent and veritable acts of contempt which warrant immediate investigation. The commission would want to assure the good people of Ghana in whose name and on whose behalf it acts that it will not be distracted by these allegations levelled against one of its members the statment added, streesing that the Commission is focused on its essential task of completing its work and presenting a comprehensive report to the President of the Republic of Ghana. The statement further assured that the commission would go to every length and take all necessary steps to maintain the high level of professional integrity, candour and balance that characterised its work in the last four months.
