A former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu in the Northern Region, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, has allayed fears on the part of his political opponents that he is eyeing the Kumbungu seat in Election 2016.
Alhaji Mumuni, in 2013, gave up his parliamentary seat to accept appointment as Secretary General of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group.
His resignation necessitated a by-election which produced the only Convention People�s Party (CPP) MP, Moses Amadu Yahaya.
Rumour
Widespread rumours have suggested that Alhaji Mumuni is preparing the grounds to stage a comeback in 2016, with political pundits in the area attributing the rumours to his frequent visits to the area.
However, Alhaji Mumuni downplayed the reports in an interview with Citi News and said: �I have no intention of coming back. I have done three terms as the MP for Kumbungu and I think that is enough.�
He, however, said he would motivate and support the younger generation there to follow his footsteps.
Kumbungu road
�I have paid my dues and I think that my responsibility now is to encourage the youth and the women to take their place and that is what I am really looking for,� he added.
Commenting on some developmental issues in the constituency, he noted that the construction of the Kumbungu road was long overdue.
�The road has been a long-term agenda for many people, including me. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that the road is put in a proper shape.
�It was actually under contract and serious work was going on but it has come to a halt because of liquidity issues which are linked to general matters affecting our economy in recent times,� he explained.
