Tdi Waste Management Boss Collapses

The Head of Waste Management at the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Gorkeh Miah, allegedly collapsed last Saturday during the National Sanitation Day exercise in the metropolis. The incident occurred at about 12 noon at Effia, the focal point of last Saturdays exercise in the metropolis. Residents in the area came out in their numbers to help in desilting the main Effia drain on the Takoradi-Kojokrom road. As the people were vigorously taking part in the exercise, all of a sudden Mr Miah fell on the ground. The situation brought the exercise to a temporarily halt as many people rushed to the scene with water to help resuscitate him. Speaking to journalists shortly after his resuscitation, Mr Miah indicated that it had always been the case anytime his outfit embarked on a major clean up exercise. It is either our equipment mysteriously breakdown or our personnel are spiritually attacked, he said. He indicated that as he was standing supervising, all of a sudden wind blew over his face and he fell on the ground. People in the various communities and markets in Takoradi, Sekondi, Kwesimintsim and other parts of the metropolis also came out in their numbers to take part in the exercise. Choked gutters which made it difficult for the free flow of liquid waste in and around the market were cleared. Residents were happy with the desilting of the Effia gutter since its stagnant water usually posed environmental health challenges to people living close to it. Many people expressed worry about the fact that the waste collected after the clean up exercises was always left at the edges of the gutters, noting that it was washed back into the gutters whenever it rained. Present at last Saturdays exercise in the metropolis were Deputy Western Regional Minister Alfred Ekow Gyan, Presiding Member of the STMA, Mohammed Ali and Regional MTTU Commander ASP Michael Dzah.
